Frederick Douglass

 This stamp commemorates Frederick Douglass. Douglass was 
 born 1817 in Maryland, and died in 1895. In 1847 Douglass 
 started a newspaper called the North Star. He was later 
 named the United State marshall in Washington. He was also
  appointed America's minister to Haitti in 1889. 
  Douglass was a well known leader that he convince 
  President Lincoln to accept black soldiers into the 
  Union Army. People are impressed and moved by Frederick 
  Douglass speeches.
