Fanny Coppin

Fanny was born a slave, but an aunt bought her freedom for $125, and then sent her to in school at Rhode ISland. The thankful young girl never forgot her aunt's generous help. She repaid her aunt by helping other. Fanny became a teacher. Fanny Coppin was one of the first black women in the United States to receive a college degree. After graduating from Oberlin College in Ohio, she was eager to teach. Coppin College, is located in Baltimore, Maryland.
