Benjamin Banneker
by Raymond
When Benjamin was young he was amazed by how many
stars there were in the sky. He liked to lay on the
ground and count the stars. Most of his nights were
spent this way. Benjamin left school to work on his
father's farm. The world became his classroom. When
Benjamin was 20 Ben could answer most really hard
questions. In 1761 he carved a clock out of wood.
The clock kept time for about 50 years. George
Washington named him to the commission that laid out
the city of Washington D.C. Benjamin was a mathematician
, inventor, surveyor, philosopher, and abolitionist.
