K is for KANGAROO
By Zuri
The Kangaroo lives in the grasslands of Australia,
New Guinea, New Zealand and on Neighboring islands.
They eat weeds and grass. The kangaroo is a vegetarian.
An adult kangaroo is about 5 feet tall. The tail of a
kangaroo is about 4 feet long. A baby kangaroo is
called a joey. When it is born it is about the size
of your thumb! There are four different kinds of
kangaroos. Their names are Gray, Red, Tree and Rat
kangaroo. They have short front paws and their
tails help them keep their balance when they leap.
They can weigh as much as 500 pounds.
All kangaroos have soft woolly fur and sharp
nails on both their front and hind legs. Only
females have pouches to carry their young.
They can live up to 23 years in the wild.
They are marsupials. Another name for a kangaroo
is a wallaby.
