Pier

by Brett

The pier is on of the most important parts of the cathedral. If there were no piers it would fall down. The pier supports the ceiling and the arches. The piers in the crossing (the middle of the cathedral where the four parts of the cathedral intersect) go all the way down to the crypt. The farther down the piers go the wider they get. The piers are made out of little pieces called columnettes.
