Q is for Queen Henrietta Maria
Queen Henrietta Maria
by Martin
Queen Henrietta Maria was born in Paris, November 25, 1609.
She spent her childhood playing in the gardens at Fontainebleau Palace.
She was reported to be the most beautiful of the kings children.
Her marriage to King Charles was arranged by her parents.
Because she was a dutiful daughter, she agreed to the marriage
and wrote proper lover letters to her future husband. George
Calvert offered to name his new colony "Mary's Land" or Maryland
in honor of King Charles' wife. This pleased the king very much.
Queen Henrietta Maria died in 1669.
