Lesson Plan Format for Microteaching Experiences

Each microteaching experience requires a written lesson plan (typed/word-processed). The lesson plan format (with suggested times for a 20 minute microteaching experience) which we will use in this class is presented below. Note that while this format provides some structure, there is room for individual choices within the components.

INFORMATION

Grade level

Content -- be as specific as possible, don't just say math, or reading, or science

Context -- what big ideas do you assume the students already have, what types of organization are they used to using, pairs, small group, etc. as appropriate

OPENING STRATEGIES (no more than 3 minutes)

ACTIVITY SEGMENT (no more than 12 minutes)

Procedures (including questions to probe understanding -- continuous assessment)

Note: Avoid word-for-word "scripting," but include enough information so that one of your peers could deliver essentially the same lesson.

It is not our view that every lesson must end with "an answer" or a conclusive result. However, you may wish to end with some statement about where in the overall sequence the class is at this point.
